The Hanbali school of law is the oldest documented Islamic school of jurisprudence. It was founded by Ahmad ibn Hanbal in the city of Baghdad during the 9th century CE. Ibn Taymiyya (1263–1328) was a theologian, jurisconsult, logician and reformer, whose teachings inspired the Wahhabi movement. He is considered to be a key figure in Islamic history for his role in defending traditional Sunnism against modernist interpretations.
